Using cantorial chants and prayer songs as his starting point, Bernstein's deeply affecting music is backed with bluesy twists and high-spirited improvisation by the holy-rolling Sam Rivers Trio with Philly's own Uri Caine on piano. With playfulness, passion and piety, Bernstein and Rivers have forged a starting new musical language blending jazz, blues and Jewish music in original and seamless ways.
