Plans underway for 2nd Annual 3-Day West Oak Lane Jazz and Arts Festival June 24, 25, 26, 2005
Philadelphia, PA. - The Ogontz Avenue Revitalization Corporation (OARC) is currently working on detail for the 2nd annual West Oak Lane Jazz and Arts Festival scheduled for June 24, 25, 26, 2005. In addition to 3 days of non-stop music and art, this year's festival will also include: 4 outdoor stage (jazz, urban soul, youth / poetry, gospel); an October Gallery Art Pavilion (with an estimated 50 fine visual artists); a children's corner (with a 20ft. mural for kids to color all weekend) and other highlights. October Gallery will collaborate with the West Oak Lane Jazz and Arts Festival to create a special art pavilion. October Gallery host the Philadelphia International Art Expo, the largest African American Art Expo in the country, which host over forty-five thousand people each year. The galley is celebrating its 20th anniversary and offers unique and unequaled opportunities for artists and art lovers to come together. The West Oak Lane Jazz and Arts Festival is being produced once again by LifeLine Music Coalition, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and preserve jazz and the arts in Philadelphia. LifeLine Music Coalition, produced the first ever 3-day 2003 Philadelphia Jazz and Poetry Festival in September 2003 and on October 14, 2004 partnered with WRTI 90.1 FM to organize the Steinway Piano Jazz for Peace (as part of a world tour) which hosted over 20 Philadelphia jazz bands. Last year's festival featured over 170 world renowned Philly based artist at 12 venues within a one mile radius of West Oak Lane. located in the Northwest section of Philadelphia. See www.westoaklanefestival.com. The Ogontz Avenue Revitalization Corporation has been presenting a monthly cultural calendar of events in West Oak Lane since August 2004. Live music is performed monthly at the Ogontz Grill,; Wednesday urban soul hosted by J. Michael Harrison of WRTI; Thursday and Saturday Jazz and Friday DJ and dancing.
